“I Was Tired, Behind Scene Is Cr@zy” – Carter Efe Reveals Why He Stopped Relationship Content With Ex-Girlfriend

  • Carter Efe has revealed that filming relationship content with his former girlfriend often left him unhappy because they would sometimes fight before appearing on camera, only to portray a happy relationship for their audience.
  • The skitmaker said he eventually chose to separate his identity and success from his relationship, admitting that maintaining a picture of happiness online while struggling privately was taking a toll on his mental health.

Nigerian skitmaker Carter Efe has revealed why he moved away from relationship content, saying the pressure to portray happiness online while dealing with conflicts behind the scenes began affecting his mental health.

Carter opened up about the experience during a recent episode of Cocktails & Takeaways, where Madame Joyce asked him about his relationship content and what led to him stopping it.

The skitmaker said he eventually realised that constantly tying his content and success to his relationship could have serious consequences for him.

Carter said, “I’m a smart boy. God gave me brain. I know say this thing go take my life.”

He recalled how dependent his content had become on his relationship at the time.

“There was a time I could not do content if I don’t see my woman. If I don’t see my woman, I cannot shoot content.”

According to Carter, he later understood that his identity and success should not be dependent on another person.

“You don’t have to attach me to anyone. Like don’t attach my glory also to someone else.”

The comedian explained that viewers often expected him and his former girlfriend to appear together, even when they were having disagreements.

“Some people don’t even care, even when you people are quarrelling, they will say they want two of you together in that video. I have to, like, use my own brain and say no.”

Carter then opened up about the emotional strain of filming relationship content while they were experiencing problems privately.

“Do you know how many times I’ll cry before we shoot? we’ll f+ght, f+ght, f+ght before we start content, before we even shoot, before we face camera. We will now do post then a lot of people will now be saying love, love, love, love. Four thousand comments, five thousand comments. I was tired because behind scene is cr@zy. Your mental health is going”

He also explained that disagreements over what content to create often became another source of tension between them.

“The woman will be saying she does not want this, you will be saying you want this, she will be saying no, this is the right one. Issue.”

Carter acknowledged that relationship content had been part of their plans for years but questioned whether it was sustainable in the long term.

“But for real is that what we want to do for years. No, you can’t deceive people for years.”
