Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has opened up about the reason she deliberately kept her marriage away from the public eye, revealing that her fear of marriage played a major role in the decision.
The actress made the revelation during a recent episode of the Dear Ife podcast, where she spoke candidly about her reservations before and during the early stages of her marriage.
According to Kadiri, she had a phobia of marriage and was uncertain about whether her union would stand the test of time. Because of this, she preferred to keep her relationship and marriage private as she took time to adjust to the new phase of her life.
The mother of two also disclosed that her husband, Mr Ezerika, understood and supported her desire for privacy.
She explained that they both agreed to have an intimate wedding ceremony, with only about 50 guests in attendance, rather than making the occasion a large public affair.
Kadiri’s revelation offers insight into why she has consistently maintained a low profile regarding her family life despite her prominence in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

“I had a phobia of marriage. I was battling with the fear of the unknown and asking myself, ‘Am I going to make this decision and everything will now scatter?’ So, I wasn’t really ready to have a public marriage, and my husband was okay with it.
“Also, I didn’t want a lot of drama regarding my relationship. That’s why my husband and I invited only 50 people to our wedding. Twenty-five people were invited by him, while 25 others were invited by me. If I were abroad, I guess we would have just probably walked to the registry and gotten married,”.
