“Insecurity has drastically reduced”- Sheikh Jingir doubles down on Muslim-Muslim ticket despite backlash over “!nf!de!s” remark

  • Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has again urged Muslims to support a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2027, saying he made his earlier position with “pure intentions” and now believes the arrangement deserves stronger support because insecurity has drastically reduced.
  • The cleric’s latest statement comes after his previous viral speech, in which he described Christians as “infidels” while canvassing support for the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
  • The comments attracted widespread condemnation, with the National Human Rights Commission calling for his arrest and prosecution.

Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has renewed his call for Muslims to support a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2027, arguing that insecurity has drastically reduced under the current administration.

Jingir made the latest call while reflecting on the backlash that followed his earlier support for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“When I said Muslim/Muslim I said it with pure intentions. Then some people now got angry. Now I am calling on Muslims more than ever to come and vote Muslim/Muslim because insecurity has drastically reduced”

His latest comment comes shortly after he sparked nationwide controversy with an earlier viral speech in which he urged Muslims to support the Muslim-Muslim ticket and referred to Christians as “infidels.” Reports said he also called on Muslims to use their votes to demonstrate their numerical strength.

The controversial remarks, made at a mass wedding in Kano attended by governors Abba Kabir Yusuf and Umar Namadi, drew condemnation from religious groups, politicians and other Nigerians.

The National Human Rights Commission described the comments as hate speech and incitement to religious hatred and potential violence. It subsequently called on the police and Department of State Services to arrest and prosecute the cleric.

Despite the backlash, Jingir previously indicated that he had no regrets over his position on the Muslim-Muslim ticket. Reports said he stood by his remarks and maintained his support for the arrangement.

Jingir’s latest statement has therefore renewed the debate over religious identity and political leadership ahead of the 2027 general election.

While some Nigerians online agreed with his assessment that insecurity has reduced, others questioned the claim and accused him of using religion to influence voters.
