ISWAP terrorists have breached part of a military base in Gajiram, Borno State, during an overnight attack on Monday, but troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelled the assault and recovered weapons, ammunition, and communication gadgets.
The attack took place at about 12:20 a.m. on 10 August at the Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area. The terrorists attempted to overrun the position before troops responded with fire and forced them to withdraw.
Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, revealed the development on X on Monday.
The military said several terrorists were killed during the fighting. Surveillance footage reviewed after the battle also showed several casualties being evacuated by the retreating attackers.

The fighting caused injuries to a few troops after part of the base’s defences was temporarily breached. Rocket-propelled grenade fire also damaged some combat equipment and vehicles.
The injured personnel were airlifted for medical care and are currently stable, the military said.
The weapons, ammunition and communication gadgets recovered from the attackers are undergoing further operational assessment. The surveillance footage is also being examined as troops assess the casualties suffered by the terrorists.
The attack began when a large number of ISWAP fighters launched an assault on the base. Troops responded with what the military called determined and effective fire, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
After the fighting, troops stayed deployed around the base and nearby areas. Their task is to monitor the area and prevent the terrorists from attempting another attack.
Gajiram is in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State, one of the areas covered by Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.
The military asked residents of Gajiram and nearby communities to remain calm and continue their lawful activities after the attack.
It also asked members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agency. The military provided 07084988859 for intelligence sharing in connection with the operation.
Troops are still maintaining vigilance around Gajiram as they examine the operational area and assess the activities and casualties of the terrorists.
Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, said it would continue its operations against ISWAP until peace and stability are restored in the North East.
