The chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, has clarified recent media reports concerning comments he made during a meeting with youths and loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his remarks were taken out of context and sensationalised.
Shekwolo, who spoke to journalists, stakeholders and community leaders on Wednesday, said reports arising from the meeting had created a distorted impression about the values and policies of his administration.
According to him, the meeting was primarily focused on administrative efficiency, grassroots development and the welfare of residents, stressing that there was no intention to alienate or discriminate against any member of the council.
The chairman stated that he lacked the authority to disenfranchise any resident of Kuje Area Council or deprive anyone of their fundamental human rights.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable governance, community development and the welfare of all residents, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic background or religious belief.
“At no point did I intend to cause disaffection, undermine any group, or promote policies that do not serve the best interest of our citizens,” Shekwolo said.
He acknowledged the media as an important pillar of democracy, but urged journalists to adhere to professional standards by verifying the full context of statements before publication.
Shekwolo said his administration remained open to constructive criticism, dialogue and accurate reporting, adding that the council would continue to engage stakeholders in advancing development across Kuje.
“Our doors remain open for constructive feedback, dialogue, and accurate reporting,” he said.
The chairman subsequently called on residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to work with the administration in promoting peace, unity and sustainable development in Kuje Area Council and the FCT.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to pursue policies aimed at improving the welfare of the people and ensuring that governance remained inclusive and responsive to the needs of the entire community.
