Kura LG Chairman Clarifies Links With Median Stairway On Kano-Zaria Highway

Ahmad Tijjani

KANO — The Chairman of Kura Local Government Area, Rabiu Abubakar Sulaiman on Monday denied claims linking his administration to the construction of a pedestrian median stairway along Kano-Zaria highway.

The clarification came amid growing criticism from concerned residents and public-spirited individuals, many of whom questioned the design and safety of the structure after photographs of it circulated online.

Some social media users had also attributed the project to the Kura Local Government Council.

In a statement issued on Monday by Adamu Hussaini Babale on behalf of the chairman, the council dismissed the reports as false, stating that neither the local government nor the chairman initiated, funded or supervised the project.

According to the statement, the chairman merely passed through the location while some public-spirited individuals were carrying out the work.

It added that one of his supporters subsequently shared a photograph taken at the site, creating the mistaken impression that the project was undertaken by the local government.

“The pedestrian median stairway was not constructed by the Kura Local Government Council, and the Executive Chairman did not approve or direct its execution,” the statement said.

The council urged members of the public to disregard any information linking the chairman to the project unless it is issued through official channels.
