A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Lasisi Jimoh, has decried disunity in Ilorin Emirate.
He expressed grave concern over the pull-down syndrome among Indigenes of Ilorin Emirate, saying it has caused a serious setback to the community in general.
He traced the disunity in the Emirate to the First Republic when the first Federal Minister from the community, Yahaya Oriokoh, fell out with the Premier of the North, Sir Ahmadu Bello, as a result of intrigues among the Indigenes within the Emirate.
Speaking as Chairman at the 40th anniversary of the League of Associates in Ilorin, Jimoh lamented that the scenario has continued from the First Republic till now.
According to him, the sad development continued in the Second Republic between Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, the Defence Minister, late Akanbi Oniyangi, late Governor Mohammed Lawal, till the present moment to the detriment of the community’s overall development.
He urged the people of the Emirate to “be their brothers’ keepers” to realise the desired progress and development of the community.
Jimoh charged citizens of the Emirate to emulate the shining co-existence of the members of the League of Associates bonded by love and unity for peace and progress of their body.
He commended the body for remaining united since its creation in 1986, 40 years ago.
Delivering a lecture on health, Professor Ibrahim Adeola Katibi, of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, Ilorin, admonished the members not to be scared of ageing.
He, among others, advised them to take regular exercise seriously, watch their blood pressure and sugar level, adopt the consumption of fish instead of beef, sleep well and go for regular medical check-ups.
Professor Katibi noted that there is no health challenge that is incurable once there is early detection of the symptoms at the right time.
In his welcome speech, Chancellor of the League of Associates, Yahaya Oloriegbe, said the body had come together “to celebrate a major milestone, 40 years of brotherhood, unity and service to the community.”
“When our founding fathers came together in 1986, their vision was simple: to be our brothers’ keeper, to stand with one another in joy and sorrow, to grow together as families and give back to the society that raised us.”
