The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has commenced plans to enforce compliance against selected markets, commercial establishments and institutional facilities along the Ajah-Lekki corridor over alleged persistent breaches of waste management and environmental regulations.
The development was disclosed by LAWMA Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, in a statement on Sunday.
He quoted the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, as saying that several facilities had been flagged for enforcement after monitoring activities revealed continued violations of approved waste management requirements.
Among the establishments listed are Kodak Moment, Bayrock Lifestyle, Caelum Nigeria Ltd, Alpha Pharmacy, Amazon Farm, Ramayaa Mall, Simply Africa Place, Aries Safia, Wolly Mall, Delightful Toy Shop and New Creation Church.
Others include The Logic Church, Dow Eye Clinic, Time Oak Hotel, L OMP, Furniture House, Fashion Design Factory, De Phantom Hotel, Elizade Motors, Trinity, Living Faith Church, Premium Rentals, Christ Chapel Church and QMB Mart.
Gbadegesin said the affected facilities had previously been engaged and monitored to encourage compliance but would now face enforcement where violations persisted.
“We have continued to engage and monitor facilities to secure compliance, but where establishments continue to default after being given the opportunity to comply, we will take the necessary enforcement measures.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that commercial activities do not compromise proper waste management or the right of residents to a clean and orderly environment,” he said.
The LAWMA chief executive said the authority would continue to combine stakeholder engagement and improved waste management services with firm enforcement against persistent offenders.
He urged businesses, markets, institutions and residents operating within the corridor to fulfill their waste management obligations and cooperate with enforcement personnel.
Gbadegesin stressed that consistent compliance was necessary to curb indiscriminate waste disposal, protect public spaces and sustain a cleaner environment across Lagos.
He reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to regular monitoring, stakeholder engagement and enforcement as part of efforts to strengthen environmental compliance in the state.
The latest development followed a monitoring and enforcement operation carried out on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by LAWMA’s Project WISE team in conjunction with personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI, the military and the Nigeria Police Force.
The operation covered the Eleganza and Issa Imamu Market areas of Ajah.
At Eleganza, the enforcement team removed illegal structures erected by traders along road corridors and pedestrian walkways. The structures were said to have impeded the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
The team also sealed the Issa Imamu Market over what LAWMA described as persistent indiscriminate dumping of refuse along the roadside.
The authority said the actions formed part of its broader efforts to improve waste management practices and ensure compliance with environmental regulations across Lagos State.
