“Law Is One of the Poorest Professions in Nigeria” – VDM Fires Back at Lawyers Over NBA Appearance

Social media activist VeryDarkMan has criticised the legal profession while responding to the backlash over his appearance at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.

VDM was invited to participate in a panel session on insecurity, where he spoke about his experiences and the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians. His appearance, however, attracted criticism from some members of the legal profession.

Reacting to the backlash, VDM said he represented Nigerians who, according to him, do not have a voice.

“I spoke on behalf of the poor people. I spoke on behalf of the people that don’t have a voice.”

He questioned why some people were unhappy about seeing him at the conference, saying, “Because a son of nobody was seen in your midst.”

VDM then took aim at those describing law as a noble profession.

“This bunch of cl%wns are telling me that law is a noble profession.”

He added: “Well, lately law has not been a noble profession. I’m sorry to say. I’m not even sorry to say. It is what it is.”

The activist went further to argue that law is one of the poorest professions in Nigeria, questioning the number of lawyers who are employed and actively practising.

“But even you, some of you who are not even practising. Mind you, law is one of the most broke professions we have in the country. Because we never talk about it. Law is one of the most broke professions. One of the poorest professions in this country is law.”

“How many lawyers are there? How many lawyers have jobs? How many lawyers actually go to court? Ask yourself that.”

VDM also questioned the number of people graduating from law school every year, claiming that some eventually end up pursuing businesses outside legal practice.

“And every year, they say they have people graduating from law school. Four thousand have graduated from law school, only to end up selling bedsheets.”

His comments have generated reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing with his argument about unemployment among lawyers, while others questioned his assessment of the profession.
