A woman has been accused of fatally stabbing her husband following a reported disagreement at their home in Aba State, just months after the couple married. The woman, identified as Sarah Nwaorji, is reportedly in police custody over the death of her husband, Innocent Nwaorji, but the Abia State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the circumstances of the case when the initial report was filed.
The incident was reported to have happened at about 10pm on Sunday in the Seven-Up Company area of Aba North Local Government Area, where the couple lived. Vanguard reported on Monday, 10 August, that the pair had earlier been involved in an argument at their apartment.
The couple were from Amaise Umuokereke-Ngwa community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and had married in December 2025.
Details surrounding the alleged stabbing remain limited, and authorities have yet to publicly establish a motive or provide an official account of what happened.
Neighbours recount events before alleged stabbing
A neighbour who asked not to be named said he was informed of the incident at about 10pm on Sunday.
“I was alerted that Sarah had stabbed her husband,” the neighbour said.
Another resident said the couple had been married for only a few months and that people who knew Innocent were shocked by reports of his death. Residents claimed the pair had a disagreement before the alleged stabbing.
However, these accounts are from neighbours and local sources rather than an official police statement. The precise sequence of events, the cause of the disagreement and what happened immediately before the man’s death have therefore not been independently established.
The body of the deceased was reportedly taken to an undisclosed mortuary in Aba, while Sarah was said to have been taken into police custody.
Being held in police custody does not amount to a finding of guilt. Any criminal responsibility would have to be determined through investigation and, if charges are brought, the courts.
Police yet to publicly confirm case
Vanguard said it contacted Abia State Police Command spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka for comment, but calls and a text message had not received a response by the time its report was published.
That means several important questions remain unanswered, including whether an arrest has been formally recorded, what offence is being investigated and whether investigators have obtained statements or other evidence.
