Marvel Studios is assembling a new generation of mutants for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with several major names unveiled for its upcoming X-Men film.
The casting announcement was made at Disney’s D23 Showcase in Anaheim, California, where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige appeared with director Jake Schreier and Sadie Sink, who is returning as Jean Grey.
Among the new additions is Adam Driver, who will portray Nathaniel Millbury, the identity used by the mutant antagonist Mister Sinister. Inde Navarrette has also joined the project as Rogue.
The film’s mutant roster will further feature Maya Boyd as Storm, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.
The announcement suggests Marvel is building a sizeable ensemble around the X-Men, although Feige made clear that more casting news is still to come.
Sink’s involvement marks a continuation of her Marvel role after her appearance as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July.
Driver, meanwhile, joined the presentation remotely from Pinewood Studios in England rather than appearing on stage in California. The actor turned his absence into a joke, saying he had misunderstood Feige’s instruction to “show up for X-Men”.
“So instead of being there in California, I’m here at Pinewood on this very lonely soundstage,” Driver said.
Feige also revealed that the newly assembled cast had only met backstage for the first time before appearing together at the event.
