NDC Flags Off 2027 Campaign, Directs Candidates to Begin Nationwide Consultations

By Chimezie Godfrey

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all its candidates to commence campaigns and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., said its presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Assembly candidates should immediately begin familiarisation, sensitisation and consultations with stakeholders and constituents in their respective constituencies.

The directive, according to the NDC, is part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and present the party’s candidates and programmes to Nigerians ahead of the elections.

“To all candidates, we are directing that they begin their familiarization, sensitization and consultations. Similarly, local campaign events can now continue,” the statement said.

The party also announced plans to inaugurate its various campaign committees ahead of the elections, saying the composition of the campaign organs would soon be released.

“The party will soon release the composition of its campaign organs, which will be announced and inaugurated on a date to be announced,” it said.

The NDC urged its candidates across the country to work with party stakeholders at the state, local government and ward levels in organising their campaign activities.

“We direct all candidates across the country to begin their campaigns. State chapters, local government chapters and down to the wards, should organize and draw up itinerary for their own local campaigns,” the party stated.

While flagging off its campaign activities, the NDC stressed that its campaigns must remain issue-based and peaceful, warning members against violence, abusive language and other forms of misconduct.

“In keeping with the ideology of NDC, the party reiterates that all campaigns must be issue-based and devoid of violence and foul language. The NDC has no room for violence,” it said.

The party also clarified the controversy surrounding its logo, disclosing that it had, in consultation with INEC, modified its logo and formally notified the electoral commission.

According to the NDC, INEC officials participated in a meeting where the modification was discussed, but some administrative processes are still being resolved before the new logo can replace the existing one.

“The NDC, in consultation with INEC, have also modified our LOGO and notified INEC appropriately, at a meeting INEC themselves attended with us,” the statement said.

The party explained that pending the conclusion of the administrative engagements with INEC, its candidates and members should continue using the existing logo, which it described as the two-finger victory sign, for campaign purposes.

“For some reasons, however, there have been some administrative details which we’re working round the clock to resolve before the existing LOGO would be replaced with the modified version,” it said.

“Until then, however, we enjoin all our candidates and members to continue to use the old logo, which is also the two-finger victory sign, for campaign purposes for now, pending the conclusion of all engagements and arrangements with INEC on the replacement.”

The party said the commencement of its campaign activities marked the beginning of a broader engagement with Nigerians as it seeks to mobilise support across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
