Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has attracted criticism after a confrontation with Villarreal defender Santiago Mourino during a pre-season friendly that ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Turkish club.
The incident occurred when Mourino used his body to prevent Osimhen from advancing into a threatening position within the penalty area at RAMS Park.
The Nigerian forward was visibly frustrated by the defender’s physical intervention.
Following the match, Villarreal head coach Inigo Perez addressed the clash, describing Osimhen’s reaction as an unprovoked attack on Mourino.
Perez argued that a red card would have been more appropriate than the yellow card Osimhen received.
The coach expressed frustration with the opposition’s approach to the game, suggesting they had prioritised confrontation over football.
He singled out Osimhen’s conduct as particularly objectionable, noting that the former Napoli player had initiated contact without justification.
