Pakistan has invited senior Iranian officials to visit Islamabad to discuss diplomatic efforts aimed at restarting stalled direct talks between Tehran and Washington.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Monday about regional and international developments, including the situation in occupied East Jerusalem, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said.
Separately, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq invited Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Pakistan “at the earliest convenience,” a government source told Anadolu on condition of anonymity.
It remains unclear when the Iranian officials will travel to Islamabad.
Talks remain uncertain
The diplomatic contacts came after US President Donald Trump cancelled planned military strikes on Iran on Saturday, saying regional allies had urged him to hold off because a deal appeared imminent.
