Rev. Nankur Peter Kundul, a pastor with the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), has reportedly died after being bitten by a venomous snake while serving as a missionary in Boltim village, Gamakai District, Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Kundul reportedly died at Sabon Gida Clinic after suffering the snakebite.
Confirming the incident on Monday, fellow pastor Rinkyer Asaph said the area had recorded several snakebite-related deaths, with at least two other Christians reportedly dying from snakebites within the past week.
Asaph described the situation as a growing public health concern in Gamakai, an agricultural community where many residents depend on farming for their livelihood.
He warned that the continued deaths could discourage farmers from going to their farmlands and potentially affect food production in the community.
The cleric called on the Plateau State Government and relevant health authorities to urgently intervene by addressing the increasing presence of venomous snakes and improving access to prompt treatment and anti-venom for victims.
The incident has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some users calling for increased access to anti-venom, while others questioned the role of faith in protecting believers from snakebites.
