The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended its condolences to the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate and former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, following the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Amaechi.
The condolence was conveyed during a visit to Amaechi’s Abuja residence on Tuesday by the National Chairman of INWC, Kabiru Turaki, who led members of the party’s national leadership.
Speaking during the visit, Turaki described the loss of a mother as one of life’s most painful experiences and assured Amaechi of the party’s support during the period of mourning.
“Nothing prepares anyone for the loss of a parent, especially a mother. We can only imagine the depth of the grief that you and your family are experiencing. As a party on whose platform you served the people of Rivers State as Speaker and later as Governor, we share in your sorrow and pray that you find strength and comfort in the certainty of life’s journey and the enduring legacy she leaves behind,” Turaki said.
Responding, Amaechi thanked the PDP leadership for the visit and their show of solidarity. He reflected on the sacrifices his parents, particularly his mother, made in raising him and his siblings, describing her as a pillar of strength whose values shaped his life.
Amaechi also commended the Turaki-led PDP leadership for what he described as its commitment to strengthening democracy and preserving a vibrant multi-party system.
He stressed the need for greater cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the next general election, arguing that a united opposition offers the best prospect for providing Nigerians with an alternative political leadership.
He urged opposition leaders to continue exploring areas of collaboration in the national interest, saying unity would be essential as the country approaches another electoral cycle.
Members of the delegation included the National Secretary, Wonyengikuro Daniel; Deputy National Secretary, Richard Ihediwa; National Treasurer, Isa Abubakar; National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan; the PDP Governorship Candidate in Kebbi State, Abdullahi Ibrahim; and the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
