The celebrity blogger’s brother-in-law, Tom, shared the troubling update during a new episode of “The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker,” revealing that Hilton remains under medical care for serious physical injuries. Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., was taken to a Miami-area hospital on August 4 after authorities responded to reports that he appeared to harm himself during a disturbing TikTok livestream.
According to Tom, Hilton suffered cuts and numerous broken bones after falling multiple times on the night of the incident. “There were some broken bones. There were some other things unrelated that they discovered stemming all this way back to his sepsis,” Tom explained on the podcast.
The latest update provides more information about the severity of Hilton’s injuries, which his family previously said would require surgery and a lengthy recovery. According to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office incident report cited by NBC 6 South Florida, fire rescue personnel treated Hilton at the scene for “multiple lacerations and an overdose” before transporting him to the hospital.
His family previously described his condition as serious but stable and said he had experienced significant blood loss.
Authorities Responded To The Blogger’s Miami-Area Home
5Hilton’s sister reportedly told authorities that he had been “unusually quiet” on the day of the incident and had locked a bedroom door, which she considered out of character.
She said she initially asked whether he was okay from behind the locked door and that Hilton told her he was fine. However, her concern reportedly increased when the door was opened, and she saw him naked and covered in blood.
Hilton’s sister then removed his children from the home and took them to her vehicle. She told police that Hilton later came outside naked and bloody and began banging on the driver’s window. She reportedly drove away after seeing law enforcement arrive.
Hilton was subsequently placed under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows a person experiencing a mental health crisis to be temporarily held for an evaluation when authorities believe that individual could pose a danger to themselves or others.
His Family Is Shifting Its Focus To His Mental Health
5With Hilton’s immediate physical concerns beginning to stabilize, Tom said the family is preparing to focus more closely on his mental health. “So, we are now just transitioning into the mental side of things,” Tom explained, according to PEOPLE Magazine.
Psychiatrists reportedly continued checking on Hilton throughout his hospitalization to monitor his condition and ensure his safety. However, the cause of the crisis has not been determined. “The actual healing, or digging into what caused this mental break as I’ve called it, hasn’t been discovered,” Tom said. “I don’t know if it will ever be.”
Online speculation has suggested Hilton could have experienced “sepsis psychosis” connected to his previous health problems. Tom stressed that medical professionals have not confirmed that theory or provided a definitive diagnosis.
Hilton revealed earlier this year that he had been hospitalized with sepsis, which reportedly required emergency surgery and an extended hospital stay.
