Police Track Suspicious Shipments Across Algeria, See What They Uncovered

Algerian police have announced a major drug seizure following an investigation that began in January.

A video released by the police reportedly shows 33.4 kilograms of cocaine and more than 10.4 million pregabalin capsules recovered during the operation.

Pregabalin is a prescription medicine used to treat conditions including epilepsy and nerve pain. However, it can produce feelings of relaxation and euphoria when misused.

Investigators tracked drug shipments moving from southern Algeria to several cities in the north.

Police said the investigation uncovered an international network based in western Algeria.

Twenty-five suspects have been arrested.

Another 25 people remain wanted. They reportedly include nationals from Algeria, Morocco and the Netherlands.

The investigation also identified suspected drug dealers in Morocco. Other alleged members of the network are believed to have operated from Dubai and France.

The case follows another operation earlier this month in which Spanish authorities dismantled a suspected smuggling network operating between Spain and Algeria.

The Algerian investigation remains ongoing as authorities search for the remaining suspects.
