Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has sparked reactions after telling Nigerians to remember politicians in their prayers, admitting that bad leadership is responsible for many of the country’s problems.

Obi made the statement during a visit to Eternity Network International (ENI), popularly known as Koinonia Global, founded by popular preacher Apostle Joshua Selman.

Speaking at the church, Obi urged Nigerians to pray for the political class and the country, insisting that Nigeria’s major challenge is not a lack of resources but poor leadership.

“Remember us, the politicians, in your prayers; we’re the problem of this country. There is nothing wrong with Nigeria, only bad leadership,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor’s comment has generated mixed reactions online, with some people praising him for acknowledging the role of politicians in the country’s challenges.

Others, however, focused on his use of the word “us”, arguing that it appeared to include himself among the political class responsible for Nigeria’s problems. Some critics also accused him of using his appearance at the church to promote his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 election.
