President Tinubu has named Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service, starting August 27.

Enitan is taking over from Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is retiring after hitting the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Enitan, from Osun State, is currently the top permanent secretary in the Federal Education Ministry and is the most senior permanent secretary in the entire civil service.

He’s spent over seven years as a permanent secretary, working at the Police Affairs Ministry, the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry and the Vice President’s office.

His experience across major government institutions brings valuable knowledge of how the civil service operates.

The president praised Walson-Jack for her work in the civil service, particularly the reforms and improvements she brought during her time.

He wished her well in retirement and thanked her for her years of service.

He told Enitan to keep building on the reforms already in progress and to push for more professionalism and efficiency throughout the civil service.

The new head should lead a service that’s professional, merit-based, accountable, innovative and responsive capable of delivering the president’s development agenda and meeting Nigerians’ needs.

Enitan was born in December 1966.

He studied at secondary schools in Ibadan and Ile-Ife, then went to the University of Lagos where he got a degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.

He later earned a master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis in 2015.
