UEFA Super Cup: Three Aston Villa players to miss PSG clash

Aston Villa will be without key trio Ezri Konsa, Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez for the UEFA Super Cup game with Paris-Saint Germain.

Villa boss, Unai Emery, wants to give them more time off for their holiday.

All three players have been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Konsa a possible target for Arsenal and Liverpool, Martinez pursued by Juventus and suggestions Watkins could move to Turkey.

But Emery insists the three Villa players have been given four weeks off, rather than three, due to their participation in the 2026 World Cup.

“They are not here because they finished the season on July 19 and I gave them four weeks to rest and it is completely necessary,” Emery said at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“Of course, if they were here, maybe we will have many more chances, but at the same time, I think PSG will be in same situation as us. We will prepare the game with players, even some young players, like we started with four weeks ago. Of course they are favourites.”
