A Nigerian man has urged citizens to speak up against what he described as bad governance, saying Nigerians do not have to support Peter Obi before demanding political change.
The man made the remarks in a video circulating on social media, where he encouraged Nigerians to consider the impact of their political decisions on their future and that of their children.
According to him, Obi has already achieved financial success in life and therefore, Nigerians should focus on protecting their own interests rather than viewing political criticism as an attempt to promote the former Anambra State governor.
“You don’t have to like Peter Obi before you speak up against this bad government,” he said.
“Peter Obi has already made it in life. It is now left for you to protect your future and the future of your children by voting against Tinubu and APC in the next election. APC must go.”
The comments come as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently published the final list of 18 presidential candidates for the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
President Bola Tinubu is listed as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Peter Obi is listed as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is also on the list as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The electoral commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The latest comments also come amid continued debate among opposition parties and political figures over how to challenge the APC in the 2027 election.
Recent reports indicate that opposition figures have held discussions around cooperation, although several major presidential candidates are now running on separate party platforms.
The man’s remarks have generated reactions among social media users, with some agreeing with his argument that political participation should be driven by concerns about governance and the future of the country.
One user, Charles, wrote: “The fight for a new Nigeria that works for the majority is a fight for personal survival.”
Another user, SylvesterIfe, said Nigerians were not doing Obi a favour by supporting political change, arguing that the former Anambra governor was already financially established.
“We’re not doing Peter Obi any favors because he’s already made man he’s doing well and whatever happened in Nigeria today can’t make him a poor man,” he wrote.
Another social media user, Sugarzaddy504, simply wrote: “TINUBU MUST GO !! TINUBU MUST GO !! APC MUST GO !!”
