Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has disclosed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is working in partnership with the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Soludo made the disclosure on Thursday during the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to Anambra State.
The governor used the occasion to disclose that the relationship between APGA, the APC and the Federal Government was focused on advancing Nigeria’s development.
Soludo also argued that there is a historical connection between APGA and the APC, noting that APGA was established as a progressive political party before the APC was formed.
According to Soludo, the ideological similarities between the two parties explain why cooperation between them is possible despite APGA maintaining its identity as a separate political platform.
“Progressives are working and it’s not just a slogan but a statement of truth, the All Progressives Grand Alliance is the oldest political party registered in 2002 and was registered as a progressive. The All Progressives Congress, APC, came about 12 years later including as a consortium a faction of APGA, so even in APC there is a part of APGA DNA,” he said.
Soludo said APGA had established itself strongly in Anambra, stressing that the party remained deeply connected to the state while also recognising the need for progressive political forces to cooperate in the wider interest of Nigeria.
“APGA has since dug-in in Anamabra State and here we say that Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra but progressives in Nigeria have no choice but to work for Nigeria’s greatness,” the governor said.
He explained that the common objective of the progressive political forces was to create a country where economic opportunities would expand and prosperity would be sustained and shared among citizens.
“As progressives we are united by the objective to see a Nigeria where there is shared and sustainable prosperity with expanding opportunities for all,” Soludo added.
The governor described the relationship between APGA, the APC and the Federal Government as a practical partnership rather than a political slogan, insisting that the arrangement had produced results.
“So far, ours is a partnership that works, a partnership between APGA, the federal government, and the APC, it’s a partnership that works,” he said.
The Anambra governor had earlier praised Tinubu over the approval of two major highway projects linking Anambra with neighbouring states, describing the decision as evidence of the President’s commitment to infrastructure development in the South-East.
In July, Soludo disclosed that Tinubu had approved the design and procurement of the proposed dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji road linking Anambra and Kogi states, as well as the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube road, which connects Anambra and Imo and provides a route towards the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway through Abia State.
The governor said the approvals followed a meeting he had with Tinubu on July 1, after which the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, requested details of road projects previously discussed with the President.
Soludo said he submitted the details of the two projects on July 3 and received confirmation from Umahi on July 15 that Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.
Reacting to the development at the time, the governor said, “I can’t contain my joy and that of my people regarding the great news from DIKESIMBA Anambra; DIKESIMBA NDIGBO, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Soludo described the projects as potentially transformative for the South-East and other regions, saying they could strengthen transportation and economic links between the South-East, South-South and North Central.
“Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the Southeast. He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the Southeast, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War. There are several unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths going on in the Southeast at the moment,” he said.
On the approval of the roads, Soludo added, “Today, 15th July, I received a message from the Minister of Works that the President has graciously approved both roads for design and procurement. These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the Southeast, South-South and North Central. The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the Southeast won’t be the same again.”
The governor also thanked Tinubu for the approval, telling the President, “History will be kind to you.”
