Nollywood actor and comedian Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has recounted a dramatic experience from the early days of his acting career involving veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
Saka shared the experience while speaking on the African A-List YouTube channel in a post published on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
According to the comedian, veteran actor Dele Odule had invited him to play the role of a lawyer in a movie being directed by Jide Kosoko. However, Kosoko reportedly objected after learning that Saka had been selected for the role.
Saka explained that Kosoko questioned his ability to convincingly portray a serious professional because of his comedic image.
Rather than leaving the set, Saka stayed back as Odule and Kosoko engaged in a heated disagreement over whether he was suitable for the character.
Despite Kosoko’s initial resistance, Odule reportedly stood his ground and insisted that Saka should be given the opportunity to play the role. Kosoko eventually agreed, allowing the comedian to continue with the production.
Saka revealed that his performance eventually changed Kosoko’s opinion of him.
He said the veteran actor was so impressed with his portrayal that he later invited him to his room and apologised.
“When we were done, he became so satisfied with how l acted that night he later called me into his room and apologise,” Saka said.
The comedian’s account highlights how perceptions can sometimes influence casting decisions in the entertainment industry, particularly when an actor is strongly associated with a particular style or character.
Despite being widely recognised for comedy, Saka’s performance on that occasion reportedly convinced Kosoko that he was capable of taking on more serious roles.
