A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ibrahim Modibbo, has disclosed that the party will soon unveil the presidential campaign council for its 2027 candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Modibbo said the composition of the council would reflect Nigeria’s federal character while prioritising individuals with integrity, competence and proven records of public service.
The ADC chieftain made this known on Friday during an interview on AIT, stressing that the party would avoid appointing individuals with corruption-related baggage to its campaign team.
He said the council would comprise people capable of mobilising Nigerians at the grassroots, particularly in rural communities, villages and city centres, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“Very soon we’ll avail Nigerians with our campaign council list which will reflect the federal character and also reflect people of character and distinction,” Modibbo said.
He added that the campaign would focus on presenting Nigerians with concrete policies and programmes rather than relying on what he described as “rhetorics” and media appearances.
According to him, the ADC campaign would highlight what it considers the failures of the current administration, including insecurity, administrative neglect, economic hardship, bureaucratic bottlenecks and declining standards in healthcare and education.
Modibbo said the party was already developing policies aimed at addressing the challenges, including its pledge to restore fuel subsidy and make student loans provided through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) free.
“We want to bring a lot of policies and programs. That is why today, we stated, look, we are going to bring back the subsidy. We are going to make sure that all this NELFUND money that are given to students in this country, we will even make it free,” he said.
He described the ADC as being on a “rescue mission,” insisting that the party was putting together what he called a formidable team to provide an alternative government in 2027.
Modibbo said the party had already mapped out its campaign strategies and completed significant work on its policy document and proposed programmes.
He said the party was relying on research, intellectual capacity and policy development to convince Nigerians that an ADC-led government would provide a different direction for the country.
The ADC chieftain also expressed confidence that Atiku would defeat President Bola Tinubu at the 2027 polls, predicting that the outcome would signal the emergence of a new government.
“God willing, by January, when President Tinubu must have suffered a monumental defeat at the ballot box, they’ll know that a new government is coming in,” he said.
Modibbo further praised Atiku’s political and administrative experience, describing him as a candidate with the educational background and experience required to lead Nigeria.
He said the former vice-president had accumulated extensive experience in politics and administration and possessed the intellectual capacity to develop solutions to the country’s challenges.
Modibbo warned that Nigeria’s worsening socioeconomic and security conditions required urgent intervention, arguing that failure to reverse the trend could further deepen the country’s developmental crisis.
He maintained that the ADC’s objective was to present Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
