Area Boys Beat Young Man To Near Pulp, Leave His Eyes And Face Swollen After They Caught Him Stealing Horse

A group of residents have dealt with a suspected horse thief in a manner he is unlikely to forget anytime soon, after a video capturing his ordeal began circulating online, showing him standing beside the very horse he allegedly attempted to steal.

According to information gathered, the man was caught in the act of trying to make away with the horse before residents in the area intervened and apprehended him.

What followed, sources say, was a severe beating at the hands of his captors, one intense enough to leave his face and eyes visibly swollen by the time the footage was recorded.

In the accompanying image, labelled “Barawon Doki,” a Hausa phrase translating to “horse thief,” the man can be seen standing quietly beside the animal, his swollen features on full display, as he was made to pose for the camera as a public marker of his alleged crime and punishment.

The image and accompanying video have since sparked reactions online, with some residents defending the harsh treatment as a necessary deterrent against livestock theft, a crime that can be devastating for farming and herding communities, while others have voiced concern over the extent of the injuries inflicted and the continued resort to mob justice instead of formal legal processes.

Our intel did not make it specific whether the young man was later taken to the police station or was set free after receiving the beatings of his life.
