Kwara State University in Malete on Tuesday became the North-Central location for a federal digital project that will teach students artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity.
Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, opened the new TETFund/Renewed Hope Initiative ICT Experience Centre on behalf of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON.
The facility gives local university students access to modern computers, interactive display boards, meeting halls, and display spaces to build practical skills.
The university in Malete was chosen as one of six higher institutions selected across the country to test the digital learning project. Each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones received one centre under the pilot phase of the programme.
Nationwide expansion covers 15 more states
Similar centres are already open at Ekiti State University, which opened on 30 May, University of Cross River State on 4 September, and Anambra State Polytechnic on 10 September 2026. Facilities at Kaduna State University and Taraba State University are fully built and ready to open.
The project will expand to 15 more higher institutions in Adamawa, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, Yobe, and Zamfara States. Building work is said to be ongoing at these new locations.

Senator Tinubu explained that the centre gives young people “opportunity, innovation, knowledge, and hope.” She told students to protect the equipment and use technology to improve their lives, local towns, and the country.
Architect Olajide Babatunde, who spoke for the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Architect Sonny Echono, explained that the centre will teach young Nigerians artificial intelligence, computer safety skills, and robotics. He noted that these lessons will help close the digital skills gap and help graduates find jobs.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq told the university to use the equipment to create jobs and solve local problems. Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh said the building is an investment that will boost research, business training, and community relations.
