Nigerian actor Adekanla Desalu and comedian MC Monica have been scammed by fraudsters posing as Federal Road Safety Corps officials, losing over 4 million naira combined.
MC Monica received a text message saying he committed a traffic offence and directing him to pay 5,000 naira through a link.
After completing the transaction, he discovered 1.85 million naira had been withdrawn from his account.
His bank said the money could not be recovered.
Desalu got a similar message claiming he violated speed limits and should pay 2,500 naira.
He entered his payment details and 2,500 dollars was deducted from his account.
Desalu, who worked in banking and knows fraud prevention methods, said he failed to spot the fake link this time.
Both entertainers urged the public not to click unverified links from text messages or emails, especially those asking for personal financial or banking details.
