Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has said she rejected her reported inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council because she had no knowledge of the list, not because of pressure from online critics.
Abraham made the clarification while responding to a lawyer identified as Egi_Nupe, who had reacted to her decision to distance herself from the APC campaign structure for the 2027 elections.
“Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about,” she said.
Her response came after her decision to reject the reported campaign membership generated reactions across social media.
New Daily Prime reported earlier that Toyin Abraham had rejected her inclusion in the Lagos State APC campaign council after her name appeared among entertainment personalities listed in the campaign structure released by the Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Media Centre.
The actress had taken to X on Thursday, September 17, to publicly distance herself from the political arrangement.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently, I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.
Abraham’s recent response has now provided further insight into what prompted her rejection.
Rather than responding to the backlash that followed the development, she said her decision was based on the circumstances surrounding the appearance of her name on the list.
The campaign structure placed Abraham under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate alongside several notable Nollywood and Fuji music personalities.
Toke Benson-Awoyinka was listed as Director of the directorate, while veteran actor Jide Kosoko was named Co-Director and Eniola Badmus Deputy Director.
Other entertainment personalities listed included Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Fathia Balogun, Yinka Quadri and Tayo Sobola.
Fuji musicians Pasuma, Obesere, Adewale Ayuba, Malaika and Osupa were also included, alongside Small Doctor.
Abraham’s rejection distinguished her from the other names on the list, as she maintained that she had not agreed to serve on any campaign council.
The actress had previously spoken publicly about her decision to stay away from politics, making her latest response consistent with the position she expressed when she first rejected the reported appointment.
She said she simply woke up to find herself listed as part of a political structure she knew nothing about and chose to correct the record.
The clarification puts the focus back on the circumstances surrounding the compilation of the campaign list and the inclusion of personalities who did not publicly indicate their willingness to participate.
