Social media activist and critic VeryDarkMan has publicly apologised to members of Nigeria’s security forces following a controversial statement he made at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference.
VeryDarkMan had recently sparked reactions after describing the military, police and other security personnel as the “unknown gunmen” during his speech at the conference.
The remark generated criticism, with some accusing him of making a sweeping statement about security operatives and undermining those who legitimately serve to protect Nigerians.
However, addressing the controversy, VeryDarkMan admitted that his comments were unfair to many security personnel, despite maintaining that he has evidence to support some of the concerns he raised.
He explained that his choice of words and the manner in which he delivered his speech may have unfairly portrayed security operatives as a whole.
In his words:
“I wasn’t fair to a lot of people, particularly where I said the military, the police and other security operatives are the unknown g√nmen. I have evidence to back it up, but the way I made the speech was not fair. There are still a lot of good security operatives.”
The activist’s apology comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding his comments at the NBA conference and the role of security agencies in addressing insecurity in Nigeria.
