The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) office in Jega local government area of Kebbi State has been burgled.
The suspected thieves took away six power generating sets.
The incident, according to the police command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, occurred on 28th August, 2026.
In a press statement he issued on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, Usman hinted that four suspects were arrested in connection with theft and vandalism of the office.
He said the suspects were arrested following a report of breaking and forced entry into the INEC office in the area where six generators were allegedly stolen.
Usman added that the detectives recovered the stolen generators following the arrest of the suspects.
He added that another two suspects, one Aliyu Mohammed, 24, of Dudduke Village in Jega, after his arrest in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack, confessed during interrogation that he conspired with one Yusuf Dudduke, of the same address, to vandalise and steal cables on an electric pole at Dudduke Village.
The six Suspects are in Police custody and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, who condemned the action, warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure, breaking and entry, and theft of government property will not be condoned and will attract severe punishment.
