Alexis Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers this season, racking up 27 Premier League appearances, two assists, and over 1,500 minutes on the pitch for Arne Slot’s side.
Yet that consistency hasn’t translated into a new contract and the Argentine midfielder says the decision has left him deeply hurt.
Speaking to the BBC, the 27-year-old revealed he was informed over the summer that Liverpool were not in a position to hand him fresh terms, a decision that stung even more given that teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch both signed new deals around the same time.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract which, of course, makes me very, very sad,” Mac Allister said.

The World Cup winner, who joined Liverpool from Brighton for €42 million in 2023, still has two years left on his current deal, which runs until June 2028. He was quick to point out that his performances and effort on the pitch tell their own story.
“Everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training and games,” he said.
Mac Allister didn’t hide his conflicted feelings when discussing his teammates’ new deals, wishing them well while admitting his own disappointment. “That makes me very happy because they deserve it. At the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine,” he said.
Even so, the midfielder moved to reassure supporters that his focus and application would not slip because of his contract situation. “The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100% until the last day I am here,” he insisted.
He closed by reaffirming his love for the club, the fans, and the city that has become home since his arrival from Brighton. “I love this club. I love the fans. I know very well this is an amazing club and this city has something very special,” Mac Allister said.
