The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Governor Seyi Makinde’s reported presidential ambition as an alleged strategy to evade investigation and prosecution over alleged cases of graft and abuse of office.
The party made the allegation in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, and made available to NEWDAILYPRIME on Sunday.
Makinde is reported to be the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
According to Sadare, the governor’s decision to contest the presidency was aimed at creating an avenue for him to leave the country before the end of his second term in May 2027.
The APC spokesman alleged that Makinde was seeking to evade what he described as pending cases involving anti-graft agencies.
Sadare further claimed that the governor was planning to leave the country from January 2027, alleging that the presidential bid was also intended to distract Nigerians and relevant authorities.

“Meanwhile, we can authoritatively inform the whole world that Makinde is only out to hoodwink Nigerians, distract the anti-graft agencies which are on his cases and also secure an escape route from the country anytime from January 1, 2027,” he said.
The APC spokesman added that the party was monitoring the governor’s alleged plans, while claiming that security agencies were already aware of the situation.
“We are working on the details of his plans even as relevant security agents are already on red alert because he (Makinde) will be made to answer for all his atrocities since he was sworn in as governor in May 2019,” Sadare said.
Makinde is expected to complete his second and final term as Oyo State governor in May 2027.
