Kylian Mbappe is confident he will win the Ballon d’Or.
The Real Madrid forward insists on Tuesday that he feels good about his chances.
The 27-year-old was the top scorer at the World Cup and also led the goals in Champions League and La Liga last season.
He scored 25 La Liga goals, 15 in the Champions League and 10 at the World Cup.
He’s the all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup history with 22 total.
But Mbappe’s teams won nothing. France lost in the World Cup semi-finals.
Real Madrid finished second in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
“They won’t announce a team in the envelope.
They announce a player,” he told RFI radio.
“Individual performance and eye-catching moments are what stand out for this award.
I was top scorer in all the biggest competitions.
I feel this could be a good year for me.”
He faces tough competition though. Rodrigo Hernandez won the World Cup with Spain and won last year’s Ballon d’Or.
Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres won La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup.
PSG’s Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia won the French league and Champions League.
Harry Kane won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
Mbappe wants the award to go back to Real Madrid.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony is October 26 in London.
