The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public against fake Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) recruitment notices circulating on social media.
The Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, issued the warning in a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday.
Folorunsho said the notices, which claim to advertise vacancies for DSSC Course 30 across fields including medicine, engineering, law and information and communication technology, were not issued by the Nigerian Navy.
He stressed that the Navy’s DSSC recruitment exercise had not commenced.
“The attached DSSC notices are not from the Nigerian Navy and have been circulating all over social media,” Folorunsho said.

He urged members of the public to disregard the notices and avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
“The Nigerian Navy DSSC recruitment is not out, and when it is, the information will be posted on my page, the official Nigerian Navy website, and official social media pages. Please do not let anyone scam you,” he added.
The warning came a day after the Navy announced the commencement of its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.
The Batch 39 recruitment is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible applicants expected to apply through the Navy’s official recruitment portal.
The Navy said the application process is free and warned prospective applicants against making payments to individuals claiming to be able to facilitate their recruitment.
Applicants for the Batch 39 exercise must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number and meet the prescribed educational, age, physical and medical requirements.
The Navy clarified that the Batch 39 Basic Training School recruitment is separate from the DSSC recruitment exercise currently being falsely advertised online.
Members of the public have therefore been advised to rely only on official Nigerian Navy channels for information about future DSSC recruitment.
