A Canada-based Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged human trafficking and sex-related offences, according to the Hamilton Police Service.
Tomiwa, 33, who is also known by the nickname “Boon,” was taken into custody after voluntarily surrendering to police hours after authorities declared him wanted.
In a statement, the Police said: “Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself in earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing.”
Police disclosed that Tomiwa, who identifies himself as a tech recruiter with TEKsystems on his LinkedIn profile, faces multiple charges.
“Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, 33 years old, of Belleville was arrested for the following charges; Trafficking in Persons, Procuring for Sexual Services, Material Benefit – Trafficking of Persons and Withholding Documents.”
Authorities also revealed that investigators believe there could be additional victims and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“Investigators believe there may be additional victims and encouraged anyone who may have information, or who believes they may have been victimised, to come forward and speak with investigators.” the police added
Tomiwa is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing as investigations continue.
