Say what you will about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, but when it comes to their kids, the famous exes seemingly know how to set their differences aside and show up when it matters.
Kim and Kanye were both spotted in the crowd Saturday night supporting their oldest daughter, North West, as the 13-year-old headlined her first solo concert at The Vic Theatre in Chicago. The September 5 show was sold out, making the huge career moment even sweeter for the rising young artist.
Videos circulating on social media showed Kanye watching proudly from the balcony, nodding along, dancing, and filming parts of his baby girl’s performance on his phone. Kim was also seen enjoying the show and later shared clips from the night on her Instagram Stories, including footage of North commanding the stage and fans cheering her on.
The former couple reportedly watched from separate areas of the theater, but they were clearly united in supporting North.
And North gave her dad’s hometown plenty to talk about.
The young performer ran through songs from her debut EP, N0rth4evr, while also reportedly debuting new material. One of the unreleased tracks featured a sample of Kanye’s emotional 2008 song “Coldest Winter,” proving that Ye’s influence is definitely living on through the next generation.
The family moment came at the end of an already major week for Kanye, who returned home to Chicago for two performances at Soldier Field on September 3 and September 4
The shows were part of his current live run surrounding his twelfth studio album, Bully, marking another big homecoming for the Chicago-raised rapper.
But Saturday night belonged to North.
As we previously reported, North has been steadily carving out a lane of her own in both music and fashion, and whether people are ready for it or not, baby girl clearly has a vision.
She has made headlines for embracing her punk princess aesthetic, experimenting with bold looks and turning heads during Paris Fashion Week after attending Vetements’ latest runway show.
But underneath the sold-out concerts, designer clothes, and famous last name, North is still very much a regular teenager with some surprisingly normal dreams.
During a recent interview with Dazed, reporter Marios Mystidis asked North what she’d want to do outside of music.
“I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year. I think I can next year ’cause I’m gonna be 14, so … I think I can. I want to have a regular job, I guess.”
Honestly, we kind of love that for her.
Starbucks might be a fun side quest, but North made it clear that music is still where her heart is. She described spending time in the studio as a “perfect day,” and judging by the sold-out crowd in Chicago, she is already taking that passion seriously.
What we love most about this latest moment is seeing Kim and Kanye put everything else aside and simply show up as proud parents.
No matter how booked and busy their own lives may be, they were both there for their baby girl’s biggest moment yet.
And we love to see it.
