One person has died and two police officers have been injured following a shooting in Overasselt, a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland.
The incident happened on Ewijkseweg during the early hours of Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Police officers reportedly went to the area after receiving an emergency call. Shots were fired after they arrived.
The two injured officers were transported to hospital. Police have not released details about their conditions.
Emergency services sent several ambulances to the scene. A trauma helicopter was also deployed shortly after 4 a.m.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed the person’s identity or explained how the individual died.
Several people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police have not revealed the exact number of suspects or what involvement they allegedly had.
Forensic investigators are examining several locations in the village as they try to establish what happened.

Residents said they heard gunfire at about 4:20 a.m. before seeing emergency vehicles and a trauma helicopter arrive.The investigation is ongoing.
