Osun State has recorded a significant improvement in its performance in the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO), ranking fifth nationally.
A total of 74.31 per cent of candidates in the state obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, placing Osun among the leading-performing states in the country.
The latest result represents a major leap from the state’s 33rd position in 2022 to fifth place in 2026.
Osun has also maintained a single-digit national ranking for three consecutive years, a development the state government attributed to sustained investments in the education sector.
The government said the progress reflects the impact of measures including the recruitment of additional teachers, improvement of learning environments and prioritisation of workers’ welfare.
Reacting to the development, the state government congratulated students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders in the education sector for their contributions to the achievement.
The government said the latest performance reinforces its commitment to strengthening education and creating an environment where students can achieve better academic outcomes.
It commended the entire Osun education community for the achievement and urged stakeholders to sustain the momentum.
