In other news… An Israeli official has been seen taking notes after dozens of delegations walked out as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
The mass departure came as Netanyahu took the podium, with delegates from several countries leaving the hall in protest. Netanyahu responded by describing those who walked out as “moral cowards” and invited anyone else who wished to leave to do so.
“If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now,” he said.
Following the walkout, footage circulating online appeared to show a member of the Israeli delegation going through the hall and writing down information while checking the seats and delegations that were no longer present.
The footage has sparked speculation online that the Israeli side was keeping a record of the countries whose representatives left during the speech.
Israeli officials were reported to have counted 77 delegations that were either absent from the hall or left at the beginning of Netanyahu’s remarks. Reports noted that the figure did not mean all 77 delegations participated in the walkout, as some were simply not present for the session.
The walkout and Netanyahu’s response have since become one of the most widely discussed moments from his UN address.
