A TikToker has advised women not to rush into marriage before the age of 30, saying marrying too young could lead to regrets later in life.
According to her, even women who get married at 27 or 28 may still be too young to fully understand themselves and what they want from marriage.
The TikToker shared that she met her husband when she was 18 and married him at 21. Looking back, she said she now wishes she had waited longer before getting married.
“Men like to catch you very young, before your brain develops. I met my husband at 18 and I married him at 21. I shouldn’t have gotten married that young,” she said.
She argued that women in their early 20s may sometimes choose marriage because they want to leave their parents’ home or simply experience having a wedding, rather than because they are fully ready for marriage.
According to her, reaching 30 can give a woman more time to understand herself, know what she wants in a relationship and identify what she can or cannot tolerate.
She also raised concerns about financial dependence in young marriages. She said that when a husband is the main provider while his young wife is still trying to establish herself, the financial imbalance could make the woman feel pressured to always agree with her husband.
She described this as becoming a “yes sir” person in the marriage because of financial dependence.
Her comments have sparked discussion about the right age for marriage and whether women should take more time to understand themselves before settling down.
