New Netherlands head coach Xavi Hernández has recalled Joey Veerman to the squad for next week’s Nations League match against Germany.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has played 17 times for the Netherlands but was left out of the squad for this summer’s World Cup in North America after falling out with former coach Ronald Koeman.
Xavi’s first 26-man squad includes a mixture of experienced players and young talents.
Some senior players have kept their places, while several younger players have been given opportunities.
Three players in the squad currently play in the Netherlands, while half of the squad play in the English Premier League.
Captain Virgil van Dijk is also included and is expected to make his 97th appearance for the Netherlands against Germany in Amsterdam next Thursday.
His inclusion ends speculation that the 35-year-old could retire from international football.
Tijjani Reijnders and Crysencio Summerville have also kept their places despite moving to Saudi Arabia during the summer.
This is a change from Koeman’s policy of not selecting players who play in the Saudi league.
However, Netherlands’ all-time leading goalscorer Memphis Depay has been left out after struggling with injuries this year.
Veteran Twente striker Wout Weghorst is also missing from the squad.
Feyenoord striker Gjivai Zechiël and PSV winger Ruben van Bommel, the son of former Netherlands star Mark van Bommel, could make their international debuts.
The Netherlands will face Germany at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam before travelling to Belgrade to play Serbia on Sunday.
