Zamfara State has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, who passed away on Monday at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
The monarch’s death has been described as a major blow to the traditional institution and the people of Zurmi Emirate, bringing to an end a reign marked by service, wisdom and commitment to peace and community development.
Reacting to the development, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, expressed profound grief over the loss, describing the late traditional ruler as a pillar of the state’s traditional institution whose counsel and leadership contributed significantly to the development of Zamfara.
Governor Lawal said the late Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi dedicated his reign to the welfare of his people, the preservation of cultural values and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among communities within his domain.
According to the governor, the monarch’s contributions to peace-building, unity and community development would remain a lasting part of his legacy.
“His Royal Highness was a pillar of the traditional institution whose counsel and leadership were invaluable to the development of our dear state,” Lawal said.
The governor also commiserated with the late monarch’s family, the Zurmi Emirate Council and the entire people of the emirate, urging them to draw strength from the legacy of service and leadership he left behind.
Residents and community leaders in Zurmi have continued to pay tribute to the late monarch, remembering him for his accessibility, fairness and efforts to resolve disputes and promote harmony within his domain.
Lawal prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
He also appealed to the people of Zurmi and Zamfara State to remain peaceful and united throughout the mourning period.
Funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the Zurmi Emirate Council in accordance with Islamic rites and tradition.
The death of Alhaji Bello Sulaiman leaves a significant void in Zamfara’s traditional institution, with his years of service, peace-building efforts and commitment to his people expected to remain part of the emirate’s history.
