2027: APC targets 2.5 million Edo votes for Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress in Edo State began mobilising voters to secure 2.5 million total votes for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming January 2027 presidential elections.

Jarrett Tenebe, Edo APC Chairman, announced the vote goal while addressing party members in Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas on Friday.

Tenebe thanked voters for supporting the party in previous local government elections and instructed members to build grassroots backing for President Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.

Governor Monday Okpebholo led the state delegation, visiting towns including Iguomo-Nisi in Uhunmwode Local Government Area alongside senior government officials to meet APC supporters.

Governor links road problems to previous government

During the political mobilisation tour, Governor Okpebholo addressed resident complaints regarding the bad condition of the Benin-Abraka Road.

He explained that contractual agreements signed under former governor Godwin Obaseki currently limit state action on the highway.

“Following the agreement that was signed by Obaseki’s administration, that road construction project was paid for before I became governor.

Despite the payment by the previous administration, the contractor still abandoned the road, allowing motorists to suffer untold hardship passing through the road,” Okpebholo said.

Patrick Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, confirmed the governor’s statements in a public report released on Saturday.

Tenebe urged party members to work towards providing the 2.5 million votes that Edo APC has already promised President Tinubu ahead of 2027.

On the road issue, the state government split the Benin-Abraka Road project between two separate construction companies. One contractor remains on site and has completed about 75 per cent of its assigned section.

The second contractor, identified by Okpebholo as a friend of former governor Obaseki, stopped work completely after collecting full payment from the past administration.

“That road was given to two contractors. One of them is working and is doing his job and has gotten up to 75 per cent completion, while the other, who is a friend to Obaseki, has abandoned his section and has become the problem causing hardship on the road,” the governor said.

Public complaints force governor action

Governor Okpebholo stated that community feedback gathered during the political tour convinced him to take direct legal action against the defaulting contractor.

“Those in the diaspora don’t know what is happening and for me as the governor, I never wanted to speak on the issue of this Benin-Abraka Road, but what I heard today has prompted me to speak on the issue. I am going to arrest that contractor,” he said.

The governor promised citizens that state authorities will address contractor misconduct while continuing political rallies across local councils ahead of the 2027 general elections.
