Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, are on a collision course over the position of Iyaloja General of Osun State.
This followed moves by the monarch to reinstate Chief Awawu Asindemade as the Iyaloja General.
The Ataoja had in a video obtained by NAIJAONPOINT, announced the reinstatement of Asindemade, noting that he remains the only person who can appoint the Iyaloja General.
“I am the only person who can appoint the Iyaloja General. I told her to stay calm and work for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and she did,” Oba Oyetunji said.
“Since she has done what I wanted, I have to do what she wants also. Now, I am returning Awawu Asindemade’s royal beads as the Iyaloja General. I want Governor Adeleke to be at peace with her,” the monarch added.
But Governor Adeleke, in a swift reaction, reaffirmed Mrs Oyebode Mary as the Iyaloja General of the state.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor denounced any announcement of a new appointee from the Ataoja’s palace.
The statement read: “Only the state government is vested with the authority by law to appoint the Iyaloja General. Any announcement from any other quarter, including the Osogbo Royal Palace, is null and void. Mrs Oyebode remains the legally appointed Iyaloja General under the authority of the state government.”
Governor Adeleke urged market associations and women across the state to ignore any appointment of a new Iyaloja General.
“Mrs Oyebode continues to enjoy the full support and recognition of the state government in her capacity as duly appointed Iyaloja General of Osun State,” the statement added.
He further appealed to institutions and individuals to be mindful of the law and desist from actions capable of disturbing the peace of the state.
