Atiku is now leader in national discourse, says Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesman for African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has described the former vice president as a leading voice in Nigeria’s national discourse.
Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor turned lawyer, made the statement on Friday in a post on X, where he highlighted his record in government and his role in economic management between 1999 and 2007.
According to him, Atiku, who served as vice president under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, headed Nigeria’s economic team during the period and helped build what he described as the country’s strongest economy.
He is now the clear leader whom other candidates are following in every important national discourse. As the head of the economic team, between 1999 and 2007, and as the VP of Nigeria, he built the strongest economy so far for Nigeria. They paid subsidy and paid off our international debt,” Okonkwo said.

The ADC spokesman also said Atiku would restore fuel subsidy if elected president, describing the proposal as a reflection of the former vice president’s concern for Nigerians’ welfare.
He is humane and humble. His promise to bring back subsidy is a reflection of his policy of putting people and their welfare first,” he added.
Okonkwo called on Nigerians to support Atiku’s presidential ambition, saying his leadership would prioritise the security and welfare of citizens.
His comments come amid political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures and parties continuing to promote their candidates and policy positions.
