‘Atiku is the only man who can rescue Nigeria,’ group declares

A political support group, Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), has declared former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar the only man capable of rescuing Nigeria, pledging to mobilise support for his presidential ambition ahead of the 16 January, 2027 election.
The organisation’s National Coordinator, Sadiq Abubakar Adamu Lwafu, made the declaration in Abuja at the weekend during a meeting with the African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC).
“The only man who can rescue Nigeria is Atiku Abubakar, and we are on a mission to ensure that the APC is thrown out of power through the ballot box next year,” Lwafu said.
He accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of worsening economic hardship and insecurity, alleging that democratic governance had given way to an increasingly authoritarian system.
The ADC-PCC also presented Atiku as a national leader capable of uniting Nigerians across ethnic, religious and regional boundaries, accusing Tinubu’s government of sectionalism and exclusion.
ADC accuses Tinubu of sectional governance
Kola Ologbondiyan, the ADC-PCC Director of Media and Publicity, made the allegations at the meeting, where he received the GMN delegation.
Ologbondiyan said Atiku represented a national leader capable of working across ethnic, religious and regional boundaries. He contrasted the former vice-president’s political relationships with what he called the sectional approach of Tinubu’s government.

“In the last three years, Tinubu has shown clannishness in governance. His appointments, his policies, his body language—everything screams sectionalism and exclusion,” Ologbondiyan said.
He maintained that Atiku’s family, business and political relationships reflected Nigeria’s diversity and showed his ability to unite people from different backgrounds.
“Atiku Abubakar, on the other hand, is a natural Nigerian devoid of ethnic, religious or sectional inclination. He is a leader for all tribes and regions,” he said.
Ologbondiyan also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using ethnic and religious differences for political advantage, alleging that the party prioritised retaining power over citizens’ welfare and national unity.
“The APC has so much capitalised on our fault lines to divide the country.
“They don’t care about the welfare of the people as far as they can remain in power.
“They are not concerned about our unity but about winning elections against the peace and harmony of the nation,” he alleged.
He expressed confidence that voters would reject the ruling party in the 2027 election.
“No government in the history of our country has ever used divisive means to hold on to power more than the APC. But Nigerians are wiser now and ready to kick them out through the ballot,” he said.
The ADC-PCC maintained that Tinubu’s approach to governance had not delivered better living conditions for Nigerians. Ologbondiyan said Atiku’s record and policy proposals made him the most suitable candidate to address the country’s economic challenges.
GMN plans nationwide campaign for Atiku
Lwafu said the GMN would begin nationwide mobilisation to rally Nigerians behind Atiku and secure the defeat of the APC at the ballot box.
He accused the Tinubu administration of subjecting Nigerians to severe economic hardship, worsening insecurity and an increasingly authoritarian political environment.
“President Tinubu’s administration has made life so difficult for Nigerians. The hardship is too much. Nigerians are now living in fear of insecurity. It appears that governance has collapsed, as a group of greedy politicians have ganged up against the poor, and democracy has been abused and replaced with an authoritarian regime,” Lwafu said.
He called the ADC a credible political platform with experienced politicians and patriotic leaders committed to national development.
Among those he named were the party’s National Chairman, David Mark; Atiku; Rotimi Amaechi; Tunde Ogbeha; Rauf Aregbesola; Kashim Imam; Senator Austin Akobundu; Senator Aminu Tambuwal; Emeka Ihedioha; Ralph Nwosu; Dele Momodu and Dino Melaye.
Lwafu said the group would work to ensure that the APC lost the election, arguing that the ADC offered leadership capable of addressing the country’s challenges.
Ologbondiyan also outlined Atiku’s proposed approach to fuel subsidy, saying an Atiku administration would restore the policy under a transparent system intended to protect poor Nigerians and support production.
“Atiku is going to bring back subsidy in a transparent and well-managed manner that will directly benefit the poor and stimulate production,” he said.
He maintained that Atiku had a clear economic recovery plan, accusing other presidential candidates of lacking consistent answers to the country’s challenges.
The ADC-PCC assured the GMN that it would work with grassroots organisations and Nigerians seeking changes in governance.
