EFCC Arraigns ALSCON, Director Over Alleged ₦582.4m Money Laundering Reporting Violations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) Plc and its director, Zavyalov Dmitry, over alleged money laundering reporting violations involving transactions totalling ₦582.43 million.

The defendants were arraigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, before Justice O. A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on a six-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025.

Dmitry was reportedly at large as proceedings commenced.

According to the charge, ALSCON, identified as a Designated Non-Financial Business and Profession (DNFBP), and its director allegedly failed to submit written reports to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) on six individual transfers made from the company’s account between March and July 2024.

The prosecution alleges that the transfers were not reported as required under Section 11(1)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The transactions listed in the charge include:

– **₦147,515,050** paid to UDATSON Nigeria in March 2024.
– **₦156,026,860** paid to UDATSON Nigeria in April 2024.
– **₦121,425,200** paid to UDATSON Nigeria in May 2024.
– **₦127,338,190** paid to UDATSON Nigeria in July 2024.
– **₦15,124,950** paid to Urico Global Services in April 2024.
– **₦15 million** paid to Christopher Azogu in June 2024.

The six transactions amount to ₦582,430,250.

The EFCC alleged that the failure to report the transfers constituted offences punishable under Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

EFCC lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho (SAN), informed the court of the allegations against the defendants.

When the charges were read, ALSCON’s Acting Managing Director, Ime Monday Inyang, entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of the company on all six counts.

Counsel representing the company subsequently urged the court to quash the charges, arguing that the company was innocent of the allegations.

The court adjourned the case until January 27, 2027, for the commencement of trial.

The allegations have yet to be determined by the court. The arraignment does not amount to a finding of guilt, and the defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence under the law.
