According to him, the proposed Forward Operating Base would strengthen the operational presence of security personnel, improve response times and enhance efforts to prevent further attacks in Wasagu and neighbouring communities.

“By the grace of Allah, we will ensure that the issue of the Forward Operating Base is addressed. We want to make sure that the security challenges confronting this area are tackled. If there is any gap or anything we need to know, please bring it to our attention so that we can work together to find a solution,” he said

Governor Idris explained that the ₦100 million donation was intended to provide additional relief to displaced residents through food supplies and other essential assistance to help ease the hardship experienced by affected families.

He further announced that the state government would provide ₦10 million monthly to support ongoing security initiatives, including the provision of food and other essential logistics for those involved in community-based efforts to support security operations.

The Governor urged residents to remain united, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could assist in identifying and preventing security threats.

He also cautioned against politicising the security situation, emphasising that political differences and demonstrations would not, in themselves, resolve the challenges confronting the affected communities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to protect lives and property, restore normalcy and create the conditions necessary for displaced residents to return safely to their ancestral homes and resume their livelihoods.

In a further commitment to improving infrastructure, Governor Idris pledged to look into the rehabilitation of the Wasagu township road and other road-related requests presented during the visit.

He noted that improved road networks would facilitate the movement of security personnel, enhance access to affected communities and support commercial activities and broader economic development.

Earlier speaking, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Alhaji Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, commended Governor Idris for prioritising security and providing logistical and operational support to security agencies across Kebbi State.

He recalled that insecurity had affected communities in the area for several years, forcing some farmers to abandon their farmlands and disrupting economic and social activities.

The Commissioner, however, noted that government interventions had provided relief to residents before the recent resurgence of attacks, adding that the state government had continued to respond to security-related requests and implement measures aimed at strengthening security operations.

He called on residents to remain united and support the efforts of security agencies, warning against attempts to exploit the security situation for political purposes.

The Commissioner also criticised the ADC governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, SAN, over what he described as political propaganda concerning insecurity in the state. He alleged that Malami had neither visited nor provided support to the people of Zuru Emirate amid the security challenges affecting the area.

Alhaji Haliru also commended traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders for their contributions to peacebuilding and assistance to affected families. He reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to work with security agencies and local communities to overcome the challenges.

In their separate remarks, the Chief of Wasagu Chiefdom, Alhaji Muktar Musa, and the Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, Hon. Hussaini Aliyu Bena, expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for visiting the area and outlining further measures to address the security situation.

They described the proposed Forward Operating Base, the monthly security support and the ₦100 million assistance to displaced residents as significant commitments towards supporting affected families and restoring peace.

The traditional ruler and the council chairman also appealed for sustained security operations, continued humanitarian assistance and the rehabilitation of major roads, particularly routes linking Wasagu and Bena
