“I Discovered Some Things That Were Not Right”- BNXN Opens Up On Cutting Off Close Friends

  • Nigerian singer BNXN shared that he had to end friendships with some close individuals.
  • He described the reasons for this decision as troubling discoveries about those friends.
  • The revelation was made during an interview on Apple Music’s The Nadeska Show.

Nigerian singer Daniel Benson, popularly known as BNXN, has revealed that he was forced to cut ties with some people he once considered close friends after discovering things about them that he described as troubling.

The Afrobeats singer made the revelation during an interview with Nadeska on Apple Music’s The Nadeska Show, released on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Reflecting on the period after the release of his second studio album, Captain, in July 2025, BNXN explained that some personal relationships became difficult to maintain after he uncovered certain issues.

“Months after I dropped Captain, you know, I had close friends that I had to detach from or kind of sever the relationships mainly because I discovered some things that were just not right,” he said.

Although he did not reveal the identities of the people involved or disclose exactly what he discovered, the singer said walking away from those relationships was necessary for his own well-being and career.

“You know, so it was important that I had to sever those ties because it could have really cost me and my career in the long run,” he added.

BNXN also advised people to pay attention to their instincts, particularly when they begin to notice that something is wrong within close relationships.

Beyond the challenges in his personal life, the singer said he was also dealing with uncertainty professionally at the time.

Despite describing himself as one of Nigeria’s top eight most-streamed artistes, BNXN revealed that he had no management team or proper support system around him.

“Top eight streaming artistes in Nigeria and, you know, at this point I don’t have no management, I don’t have no team, and it’s like, what are you going to do?” he said.

According to the singer, the situation made it difficult to maintain confidence, especially during periods when his professional achievements did not seem enough to overcome the challenges he was facing.

“And then it kicks in, like you said, in the bad days, how do you remind yourself that you’re this guy?”

BNXN explained that the experience eventually forced him to reorganise his career and put structures in place, which later contributed to the development of his project, Still In Charge.

“I started to restructure, try to get everything in one, in one bit. And that’s where the whole process of Still In Charge starts coming up,” he said.

The singer, who previously went by the stage name Buju before adopting BNXN in February 2022, did not provide details about the streaming platform or specific period on which his claim of being among Nigeria’s top eight most-streamed artistes was based.
